“Denali” is the Athabaskan name for Mt. McKinley, and means “The Great One”. Towering at 20,320 feet, it is the highest mountain in North America.
Take the long, lovely ride along the country road to Wonder Lake and you will see the great mountain from many angles, and, of course, all of Alaska’s splendid wildlife!
Part of the mystique of the mountain is that it is viewable at what seems like “when it wants to be viewed”. Denali seems to have its own weather pattern, and is so often obscured by clouds; when it does “come out” it is a special treat to anyone who happens to be there at the right time. It makes you appreciate her that much more because seeing her isn’t an everyday occurrence.
Born and raised in Alaska (and still lives there!) Diane Harrison has developed a love for nature in its many forms, and would spend hours drawing and painting the beauty just outside her door. Although mostly self-taught, Diane has earned an arts degree from the University of Alaska and continues to study outside of school. She works mostly in oil and watercolor but also enjoys pencil. “What I love most about nature is that everyone is equal in it, no matter what his background is, his income, or his status in life.”
