We adoped a sweet dog from the Tacoma Humane Society last February. We think he is a lab/boxer mix, about 2 years old. We don't know much about his history because he was found wandering as a stray. However, I am fairly certain he was treated roughly by someone in his past. We named him Olly, took him to obedience school, and have been trying to build his confidence since he's been with us.

He's a great dog except for one problem--submissive urination. He doesn't urinate out of excitement (as in when greeting us or visitors). It seems to be more when he thinks he is going to be in trouble. It happens most anytime we try to attach his leash to the collar, or if he is given a command (such as come) he will come part of the way to you, then stop, slink down as if he's waiting to be hit, and pee all over the place. Sometimes he even rolls over on his back, sending a stream of urine into the air--all over himself and anything else that gets in the way. He's not being scolded or corrected when this happens. If we do try to gently give him a correction, (for example if we ask him to sit and he doesn't do it--) he usually collapses into a huddle of dead weight on the floor. Any attempt to gently lift him into a sitting position results in more urine. Pretty much if you give him a command (and he does know what we are asking, he has been through obedience training and did great)--if he doesn't obey the command, any attempt to correct him results in urine. I should also mention he is housebroken and does not have any accidents at other times.

I feel like my options are to allow him to ignore my commands, or else deal with urine all over my house. Neither of those options are acceptable to me.

We are at our wit's end with him. I have been hoping that it would improve with time, but it has been 8 months now and there has been no improvement. He has only been treated gently since he has been with us--no yelling, and defintely no hitting/kicking. In other words, we haven't given him a reason to be afraid of us. I'm concerned that this may be a permanant problem resulting from an experience he had before he came to us. I'm to the point of considering taking him back to the shelter. I know the results would be tragic because who's going to adopt a dog with this problem when there are hundreds of non-peeing dogs to adopt?

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to deal with this? Is there some technique I haven't tried? Is there some kind hearted, dog-saavy person that wants to adopt and work with this sweet dog? If so, please email me.

She was from a litter of rescue kittens and adopted to a family with her litter-mate but the parents divorced and since then she's been looking for a new home. she's lived inside all her life and needs to be an indoor only cat due to flea allergies. She has soft gray fur and big eyes from her main-coon father and plenty of energy and curiousity from her tabby mother.

Kati is super affectionate and likes to be where you are! She needs lots of things to do to keep her busy. A household with various places to nap and things to explore and a window with interesting things to watch, like birds, would be ideal. A moth to chase, capture and eat is one of her favorite things to do for a little excitement. But most of all she wants to be right where you are helping you while you work at your computer, watch tv or read the paper.

Compatability: Kati would be best as an only pet or with her litter-mate to avoid fleas due to her flea allergies. She's fine with kids who handle pets gently. She's normally friendly and affectionate but when there's visitors she'll pick and choose who she's friendly with.

She tries hard to be a contented indoor cat and often copies the domesticated cats but because she was born in the wild she's not completely at ease and needs to hear the sounds of nature, have some space to run and climb, and have some good hiding places where she can feel secure and watch the world from a distance.

she's a little princess-like in how she eats, and that's the only time she'll talk with the tiniest meow, and brush against your leg.

Victoria's best asset: just being cute (not a mouser, not quick enough for birds).

Compatability: Victoria would be fine as an only cat or with another mellow cat, but not a high energy cat. Not fond of dogs. Ok with squirrels.

This was, oh, he was about 19 or 20. We had a stable, I use to be a horse trainer. Big stable, mostly Thoroughbreds, some weren't "gentle" types. Well we had two rows of stalls with a big indoor arena between them. And there were doors from the hallways in the center of the long side of that arena to "cut through" or get into it from the hallways.

I had a new gelding turned out in the arena, who was pretty nasty. He liked to "charge" people. Thought it was funny to run over them. One those "Kid raised him" things and taught him to "chase her" and thought it was fun until he started running over the top of her and leaving foot prints in her body!

My son is a big boy, he's 6'4" and he rides. He grew up around horses, but even at that age, I didn't let him handle the really difficult ones. That was for me to do. He's very good with them, but even so? We protect our children, you know?

Well we also raised Jack Russell Terriers. And one of them, a little female just ADORED my son. She followed him EVERYWHERE.

So he heads across the arena to get to the other side. Faster than walking around. The dog is behind him as usual. Little dog, cute, tiny, wouldn't do well with a hoof print in her body.

I look up and see this, and in my "listen to me" voice, I said, "Steve? GRAB the dog, and GET OVER THAT GATE NOW!"

he looks, but he knew. I didn't use that tone when it wasn't serious. So he did! Grabbed the dog, leaped the gate just as this big black gelding was bearing down on them both. They made it.

He thinks that means I cared more for the dog than him...lol. He has fun telling his non-horsey friends this story to show how he was abused as a child.

Oh he knows. We care for those that can't care for themselves even if it means we may be in jeopardy ourselves. That means, you don't sacrifice the dog, who would have been killed! You save that dog too. You might get knocked down, and maybe hurt, but you probably wouldn't die. The dog wasn't going to be that lucky.

So I guess when people irately exclaim that our dogs don't matter as much as our kids? I'm not sure I'd agree! When you are part of my family, whether you have two legs or four, you are cared for, and equally.

What's funny is one of his dogs nipped one of his kids when she was younger? I was there, the dog didn't do much, just sort of let this 2 year old know that enough was enough...and he is a chip off the old block! Sent that two year old to her room for picking on the dog! As well he should! I just want to tell everyone, that my two dogs and my cat will ALL be making the trip east with me, however my car is going to get sold here. I'll get a new one when I get there.

I still have to find a place for us all to live, but I will. I'm flying there to look for housing this Thursday. It may not be totally comfortable for the animals while I make this move, they'll have to stay here while I go look and then they have to ship in a kennel, but you know? I wouldn't leave them behind.

I recently found a stray puppy and have decided to keep him as I was unable to locate his owner. I initially thought I would be able to keep the rats, however, the dog torments them and I am unable to provide them with suffiient time out of their cage. Unfortunately we had no idea our children would be allergic! We just didn't know and we don't think it is fair to our dog to have her live outside for the rest of her life.

She is already spayed and up to date on her shots, comes with 2 more months of Advantage treatment, food, dishes, collar, leash and a medium sized kennel. She also knows a few commands and is pretty much housebroken.

she is black, short haired, with WHITE whiskers...she had a zebra collar on when she left- but it is possible this has fallen off. no microchip unfortunately- she was to get one the same week she went missing :( if you can get close, she is declawed in front, but has her back claws. hopefully that detail can be a quick and easy determining factor as to whether it may be her or not. thanks everyone for your efforts and calls. I have a purebread Small Munsterlander that I adopted while living in South Dakota. She hunted, mostly pheasants, with my husband and I and did a great job. She is a beautiful dog, I can send more pictures if you would like.

We adopted her when she was five years old. And this is the hard part. She bit her previous owner and the first person he rehomed her to as well. She also bit my husband. She is not an aggressive dog, I beleive these incidents were out of fear not anger. This being said, she still has a history of biting and we now have a son that we must think of.

We had Maggie for three years and have done our best to rehabilitate her with no success. She was trained with a shock collar by her first owner because she is a hunting dog. Unfortunately this means she will not listen without it on.

She is a good dog and too smart for her own good. She would love an active household with runners or hunters and no young children. We will request a rehoming fee for her to ensure she will be going to a house that is serious about her. We really want her to go to a home and will be 100% honest about her, which is why I don't want her to go to a shelter and be put down.

Please do your research this is a very rare dog with distinctive issues. Please let me know if you have any other questions or would like more pictures.

I read a post on here this morning that just made me shake my head and wince. They're trying to place a nine month old puppy because "her 5 year old gets the dog too excited and it jumped on the baby". I just cringe. Small children do not know how to interact with a dog without being taught. Puppies don't know how to interact with people, until they are taught. Yet so many people want a puppy "to grow up with their kids", and so many times it is a disastrous situation that the dog ends up paying the price for. Please, think twice about getting puppies for kids under the age of 8. Adult dogs, can make wonderful pets and appreciative companions and can adjust to toddlers who are just learning how to interact with a pet. I bred and showed dogs for years. I had a rule I never broke about small children and puppies. I never sold a puppy to a family with kids younger than 7. More of you "Breeders" need to be less money hungry and anxious to get rid of these dogs you're creating and a little more cognizant of the life they will live with the people who want them. Please consider older dogs for younger children. Bubba has been missing since Octbober 1st. We also call him Bubba Lou. He is almost a year old and is a small cat. He's not neutered. He has medium length black hair that has brown tints to it. He had no collar. Bubba's picture is recent.

They both respond to whistles, meows, and fingure snaps but Bubba is more skittish of strangers. They were last seen in Avon Villa Mobile Home Park on Avondale Road in Redmond.
