Job Description:
The Coding Operations Manager (COM) ensures optimal delivery of services by effectively managing client support, coding operations, coder production, and designated staff supervision. S/he must posess excellent written and verbal communication skills, present professionalism and confidence when interacting with clients and have strong presentation skills. S/he monitors client satisfaction and implements improved processes where needed to maintain efficiencies while supporting quality and production. The COM’s responsibilities include communication, problem solving, work flow or process assessment, monitoring, continuous quality improvement, timely and accurate delivery of coding services, and support of technical functions. The COM maintains effective communication between coders and data specialists, as well as with clients and other departments. The COM will seek direction from and keep the Director, Coding Operations apprised of the department’s status with regard to personnel issues/changes, workload assessments/resource needs, client issues, coding production or coding accuracy issues, and proposed disciplinary actions.
20-25% travel to client sites required.

Job Requirements:
Plans, monitors, directs and evaluates coding production on a daily basis. Ensures that daily site coding drop schedules are met and communicates with Director, Coding Operations and client if situations occur that hinder making drop schedule. If system issues or other emergencies delay coding, implements measures/schedules to return to established coding schedules at the earliest possible time and communicates to client.
Identifies day-to-day operational priorities and other work flow issues; adjusts coders, data specialists and other staff as necessary to ensure a constant flow of work so that delivery schedules are met. Notifies the Director immediately if a problem arises that causes a redirection of work or inability to meet work/drop cycles. Coordinates with QM personnel to balance resource needs between Coding and QM.
Assists in the development and revision of operational policies and procedures that facilitate efficient workflow. Develops an understanding of the workflows, procedures and site-specific criteria for each assigned client.
Is constantly mindful of the need to optimize coding department revenues and minimize operational costs. Emphasizes productivity goals and takes action to ensure effective and efficient use of staff and own time is maintained. Creatively plans for allocation of extra capacity for backlog coding and other revenue generating projects. Makes suggestions for ways to reduce costs and enforces policies designed to minimize department expenses. On an annual basis, or more frequently as needed, assesses margins for assigned sites and works with coding management and others to implement changes designed to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Tracks unit level performance to ensure that department personnel are performing within the established quality, production and financial performance criter.
Maintains technical knowledge of coding.
Bring proven ability to oversee, provide support and/or direction on multiple projects simultaneously.
Participates with Product Management, IS, Coding Management and client representatives in initial assessment and determination of specific requirements for successful coding implementations.

Required Experience
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or other related field is required (will consider commensurate work experience in lieu of degree). Graduation from an accredited nursing program or RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC certification is preferred.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years experience in hospital or healthcare operations and personnel management. The incumbent will possess a technical understanding of healthcare industry information systems.
RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC/CCS-P certification is preferred
