Course 1011: Drawing Clothing and Drapery

If you've ever tried drawing or painting people, but weren't sure how to make the clothing look real, this class will help. You'll learn about spiral folds, diaper folds, drop folds and more; tension lines and support points; how to make clothing look real and three-dimensional, whether you're drawing from a model or from imagination and how to suggest textures such as silk, denim and leather in your drawings and sketches. We'll work from a physical model, as well as from photos, handouts and the instructor's step-by-step illustrations. "Absolute beginners" welcome. Nothing to bring or buy; all materials are provided.

Instructor: Nils Osmar
Sponsored by: ASUW Experimental College
Location: University of Washington campus (Seattle branch)
Spring quarter dates and times: Sundays 2 pm-3:45 pm, April 27-May 18
