Chateau Ste. Michelle is looking for a Staff Accountant. Work for one of Washington's oldest and most acclaimed wineries!

This is a key position with the accounting team at Ste. Michelle that is responsible for preparing, compiling, calculating, and analyzing accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP and company policies. This includes the accurate and timely preparation of journal entries, reconciliations and depletion allowance payments. Position is accountable to work effectively with other key members of SMWE, UST and the accounting team to accomplish position goals and objectives.

Essential Functions:
• Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of depletion allowance payments to distributors. Utilize distributor reports of shipments, compare to pricing calendar and make necessary adjustments to reflect proper payment amounts.
• Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of internal management reporting. Utilize system reports to consolidate information in a meaningful manner. Ensure data is accurate, properly supported and reconciled. Work closely with Sr. Accounting Manager on content and format changes as requested by company management.
• Responsible for the preparation and timely processing of general ledger transactions. Analyze prepaid accounts, record amortizations, and prepare monthly reconciliations. Ensure reconciliations are properly supported and discrepancies are researched and resolved timely. Work closely with Sr. Accounting Manager and other accounting staff to ensure that all deadlines related to the monthly accounting close process are satisfied.
• Responsible for the accurate accounting of leases, ensuring that straight line lease expense is properly calculated, recorded and reconciled. Maintain lease files to provide adequate documentation to support the lease amortization schedules.
• Responsible for the preparation of various GL account reconciliations, ensuring that financial statement balances accurately represent company assets, liabilities and equity. Ensure that all reconciliations contain proper supporting documentation and adhere to company standards and internal controls.
• Assist the Sr. Accounting Manager and other accounting management with various projects and ad-hoc reporting as required.

Non-Essential Functions:
• Must possess solid accounting knowledge.
• Must have excellent communication and organization skills.
• Must be detail-oriented and be sensitive to deadlines.
• Must be flexible and willing to work on a multitude of projects.
• Must be able to work cohesively on a team.

Working Conditions:
• Requires regular overtime and weekend hours during quarter/year-end close.
• Requires occasional overtime during the week.
• Minimal travel to other Ste. Michelle locations.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Two to four years accounting experience.
• Actively working towards CPA certification.
• Working knowledge of GAAP.
• Must possess strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Proficient knowledge and use of automated accounting systems.
• JD Edwards AS400 systems experience preferred.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be a self-motivated team player who is able to work well under pressure and handle multiple priorities within deadlines.
• Wine Industry and/or food processing experience is preferred.
