Though it is built for the commercial marketplace, it delivers superb video and is thus one of the leading products in the "crossover" trend, which refers to products designed for commercial use that also work extremely well as home theater machines. Many home theater enthusiasts will want to use the LT240K as a dedicated home theater projector due to its exceptional image quality and low price.

Product Overview

The LT240K is a DLP-based product using Texas Instruments' high contrast, 12 degree DDR DMD chip. It is native 4:3 format XGA resolution, and has been upgraded from an original 1300:1 contrast ratio to its current 2000:1 rating. Brightness has also been increased from the original 1600 ANSI lumens to 2000 lumens on the new model. It has an eco-mode which drops lumen output by about 20%, and drops fan noise from an already fairly low level to a virtual whisper.

The light engine features a four-segment RGBW color wheel that rotates at 120 Hz, commonly referred to as a "2x" rotation speed. All of NEC's LT series projectors use this wheel. The RGBW color wheel produces higher light output than the six-segment RGB-RGB color wheel used in the HT1000. (By the way, the HT1000's wheel also rotates at 120Hz or "2x", but because each rotation of the wheel delivers two complete RGB refresh cycles, this implementation is commonly referred to as a "4x" speed wheel.)

The optical system is environmentally sealed, which means that it will operate well without being affected by the presence of smoke and dust. Few projectors in this price range have this feature.

The LT240K is easily portable, weighing just 6.5 lbs, and measuring 10.2" wide, 11.8" long, and 4.7" high. A hinged handle folds into the casework and becomes invisible when not in use.

Connection panel inputs include two VGA 15-pin D-subs for RGB and component video, one composite jack, one S-video port, a USB Type A, a USB Type B, and two audio inputs, one for the video jacks and one for the VGA ports. There is also a monitor loop-through port, and audio out. For those who want to load presentation material onto the projector itself and be free of the laptop, a PCMCIA PC card slot is provided.

This product will take HDTV 1080i, 1080i/50, 720p, 480p, 480i, and PAL progressive/50. Color systems compatibility includes NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL, PAL-N, PAL-M, PAL-60, and SECAM.

NEC has given you the ability to tweak to your heart's content. In addition to preprogrammed color temperature and gamma settings for presentation, graphics, video, movies, and so on, there are four user programmable settings as well. You have the ability to adjust gamma, perform color correction via independent red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, and yellow controls, set color temperature from 5000 to 10,000 degrees at preset increments. (One small complaint--there is no preset increment between 5000 and 6500 degrees. Classic B/W films are ideally viewed at 5400 degrees rather than the NTSC standard of 6500 degrees. But you can't quite get there with the preset options on this projector, and 5000 degrees is a bit too warm.)

In terms of throw distances, if you have a small projection room the LT240K offers more flexibility. It will throw a 100" diagonal 4:3 image from a distance of between 10.25 to 12.3 feet lens to screen. The LT260K needs to be moved back to between 13 and 16 feet to produce the same 100" diagonal image. If you are installing it yourself, make sure to allow plenty of space around the unit for heat dissipation (this is true of any projector). Also plan an extra six inches behind the projector for cable connection since that is where the connection panel is.

Format and Set-up

This projector is native 4:3 format and it should be matched with a 4:3 screen if you want to avoid cropping 4:3 material. Meanwhile 16:9 HDTV and movies will be displayed with black bars top and bottom. This is the ideal set up for many folks, and there are certain unique advantages to this over a 16:9 screen and projector. If you aren't sure which set-up fits your needs, read Your Biggest Decision: 4:3 or 16:9? before deciding on any projector/screen combination.

Performance

NEC has turned an already superb projector into a great one with the LT240K. The contrast is now leading edge, and the projector delivers solid black levels and ample contrast to produce a thoroughly satisfying and well-balanced image. Though the use of an RGBW color wheel reduces color saturation somewhat, the contrast performance of the DLP chip makes up for some of the loss. The net result is that color saturation, while not as deep as it is on the HT1000 and other DLP projectors with six-segment RGB-RGB wheels, is quite sufficient. Unless you have a projector with higher color saturation running next to it, most viewers would not notice any deficiency at all in the depth of color.

The LT240K has a new lens with the same physical properties but improved optical performance. With this upgrade the projector now delivers the sharpest XGA resolution DLP image we've yet seen. In data mode, the picture is razor sharp and equal to the the finest LCD products in this aspect of performance. That is saying quite a lot, since we've never seen a DLP projector that could match an LCD for sharpness in the rendering of a computer image (assuming the same resolutions of course).

The color decoding has minor errors, but none that cause visibly erroneous representations on the screen. Flesh tones are entirely natural. Reds are fairly close to ideal reds with little of the irritating orange bias that is found in many competing units.

Deinterlacing is better than the average for today's commercial projectors. However for the best video performance the internal deinterlacer can be bypassed by using 480p input, resulting in a very sharp, clean image. As with most projectors, the composite video input is the least satisfying of the inputs and should be avoided due to the limitations of the signal itself. S-video is the next step up, but should also be avoided if you have a component video source available.

Progressive scan input from DVD produced the stunning, sharp, beautifully scaled image that we were ultimately hoping to find. With good progressive scan DVD players selling for under $300 these days, there is no excuse not to feed this projector a video source of at least this quality.

Factory presets for brightness, contrast, color, hue, and sharpness were for the most part fairly close to optimal. So out of the box, the projector already looked impressive. After some relatively small adjustments to color, brightness, contrast and sharpness, the unit was capable of delivering truly beautiful images.

Since the LT240K has a 4-segment, 2x speed color wheel, a word needs to be said about the "rainbow" artifacts that some people can detect. This can occur due to the sequential updating of red, green, and blue as the color wheel spins, such that you see a breakout of red, blue, and green on the screen. Dealers on this site report a very low return rate for NEC's DLP projector products, so the percentage of people thought to be sensitive to rainbow artifacts on them is small.

However, some people are particularly sensitive to rainbow artifacts. For those unfortunate folks, DLP projectors with 2x speed color wheels are not the right solution. They should consider either LCD or LCOS products that have no color wheels, or a higher performance DLP projector with higher speed wheel like the NEC HT1000. This usually eliminates the problem.

Conclusion

Overall, with the performance improvements and a price now well below $3,000, we can affirm that the LT240K produces exceptional video performance for the money. It is the quintessential crossover product. It is an outstanding performer for business presentation use, and it also earns its place on our list of Highly Recommended Home Theater Projectors.

I started my business in college to make extra money and have charged $500 a wedding and get booked every weekend during the summer with just advertising on craigslist. So 2 gigs and this equipment pays for itself and you can start making money like I've been. You can't beat getting paid $500 for four hours of laid back work, so if you've been looking for a way to make some extra money this would be a great investment. Here are some pictures of this equipment at venues. One picture is from a gig at Hotel 1000 in downtown Seattle and the other is at Pickering Farm in Issaquah.

Plasma screen NEC TV Digital Dream (South Everett - Silver Lake) $80

This is a high-end plasma TV with a billit aluminum stand. NEC plasma display model NP42B2MF02/Daewoo DP42SM.

The red power light does come on, but the rest does not reliably cycle on. Our plasma TV has no video or sound, but the screen is not broken (with no punctures or gouges). There do not appear to be any visibly burned/melted circuit panels/boards

Worked very well as a ginormous wall monitor for Tower PC or laptop sourced movie screen (built-in speakers/Digital tuners etc).

The PLASMA design features solid glass face and intense color brightness -even in sunlit rooms/daylight

Also seemed to provide a more distortion-free image when viewed from extreme side angles-warmer to touch!?!

If you're interested in our Fixer plasma TV, please call Bill or Sara at (425) 346-7820. Thanks!

Hello,

I've decided that I'm going to sell my Valentine One.
I bought it slightly used about a year from now for 350 from somebody who got rid of it because they sold their car to get a motorcycle.

I love it, and it works great.
But I'm in need of cash.

I'm selling it for 300 which is 50 less than what I paid for it.
They're 400 brand new.

It comes with the original box.

No lowballs.

Thanks
FLUKE Model 8060A, one of models that earned Fluke it's fine name. It is extremely clean and the accuracy is the same great condition. This has always been a model for the Engineer or the student, the technical designer or the technician. This model will still do things that other, far more expensive, models will not....

o True-rms AC voltage and current measurement (Volts to 100 kHz)
o Fast audible-visual continuity tests
o Relative Reference (offset): When measuring ohms with the 8060A, the relative reference function displays only the difference between a stored reference value and a measured value, even if the range was changed between readings. Relative mode works in all functions and ranges.
o Low-power ohms on all resistance ranges, for in-circuit resistor tests
o Constant-current diode test mode
o Resistance and conductance measurements
o Frequency and dB measurements. The 8060A's direct dB readout (referenced to 600Ω) easily and accurately measures the dB gain or loss of amplifiers, filters or attenuators.
o Digital Display/Counts: 20000
o Resistance to 300 MΩ
This is in great shape! Works perfect. This camera takes beautiful pictures every time! Call me at (360)317-5866
Stylish and Compact 5-megapixel 3x Zoom DMC-FX8 with MEGA O.I.S

Affording More Than Double-Extended* Battery Life

*Panasonic in-house comparison with DMC-FX7

Panasonic is introducing the incoming LUMIX model DMC-FX8, a true heir to the world-renowned 5.0-megapixel 3x optical zoom DMC-FX7 with MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), with substantially enhanced battery life. The DMC-FX8 boasts high picture quality, large LCD, compactness and stylish design, all those desired for a compact camera. Not only that, FX8 also incorporates the highly commended MEGA O.I.S. while extending the battery life over two times as long as that of the previous FX7, by increasing the included lithium-ion battery capacity by 162% and adopting the power-saving Venus Engine PLUS. In addition, bright and clear VGA moving picture is recordable at 30 fps thanks to the 9-pixel mixed readout method of new CCD and you can enjoy playing back it with audio on the large LCD. Also, quickened AF speed and the addition of scene mode help screen and three new modes help upgrade the model allowing every user to enjoy taking high quality picture more easily and more comfortably. Like FX7, FX8 also has its color variation in silver, black, blue and pink, each with a specially coated texture pleasing to touch. DMC-FX8 is the alluring stylish and compact model that carries all the favored advantages while overcoming the weakness of FX7 to meet customers’ demands.

.
.1. Compact and stylish model with 3x Leica DC lens and 2.5” large LCD

The 5-megapixel LUMIX DMC-FX8 is the slim and stylish model that incorporates 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 35mm to 105mm on a 35mm film camera) LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens and bright 2.5” LCD monitor. The combination of three aspherical lenses generates high optical performance while preserving the compactness of the unit. Power LCD mode offers 140% brighter backlighting to assure clear view even when sunny outdoors.

2. MEGA O.I.S. offers clear, sharp images in difficult situations

MEGA O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer) that Panasonic thinks it indispensable for all digital cameras, especially for compact models that lack stability, is incorporated in the entire LUMIX line-up*. Every slight hand-shake movement is detected accurately with the sampling frequency at 4,000 times per second and will be compensated to render clear, sharp images.

MEGA O.I.S. is equipped with 2 selectable modes. In “Mode 1”, the O.I.S. lens continuously compensates for vibration and in “Mode 2”, the O.I.S. lens suppresses hand-shake only at the moment the shutter button is pressed. In this mode, the lens can move in all directions at the moment to maximize its effect, and higher-resolution images can be taken by capturing the image as being close as to the center of the lens. Consequently, since MEGA O.I.S. enables a beautiful picture shot without blurring at slower shutter speeds of more than three steps compared to the conventional models without O.I.S., you can enjoy shooting clear and beautiful pictures easily even in situations using slow shutter speeds, like indoor shots for portraits and nighttime scenery for illuminated objects, as well as in shootings using macro mode.
*Except for LC1.

3. More than double-extended battery life

By adopting the newly developed lithium-ion battery that increased its capacity by 162% and the Venus Engine PLUS that consumes only 70% of the power Venus Engine II does, FX8 realizes more than two times longer, compared with the previous FX7, battery life to take approx.300 pictures*.
*Based on the CIPA standard.

4. Higher quality moving images

Newly developed CCD that adopts 9-pixel mixed readout method makes it possible to record beautiful full-size movie in VGA size at 30 fps while FX7 recorded in the size of QVGA. The new CCD enhances the picture quality not only in the resolution but also in the brightness level of the image as it gains much luminous signals. On the sound front, new built-in speaker lets you enjoy playing back movies with audio on the 2.5” large LCD anytime, anywhere.

5. Faster AF and enhanced options

An AF method can be selected according to the shooting situation: 5-point, 3-point high-speed, 1 point high-speed, 1-point normal-speed and Spot. In the newly incorporated 1 point high-speed AF, the AF time has been dramatically reduced to approx. half the level* of the previous DMC-FX7.

Although screen-freeze in high-speed AF is now minimized, if you take the picture of subject with fast movement, you can select 1-point normal-speed AF which does not have any screen-freeze while focusing.

In addition, AF assist lamp is equipped for expanding the AF ability even at night or under the low-light conditions.
* Panasonic in-house comparison with DMC-FX7 at the wide-end 6. Easy-to-use scene modes for wider-ranging situations

LUMIX FX series has a mode dial that shortcuts the selection of the scene mode that best matches the situation quickly and easily. DMC-FX8 contains three new modes added over the FX7. “Soft Skin” detects only skin tones and softens detail to produce smoother and more beautiful skin. “Food” catches the natural color of food regardless of the light condition in macro closeup. “Baby” allows easy growth record in which the baby’s time of age according to preset birthday would be automatically recorded onto the image, as well as maximizing the baby’s purity by giving a shade of soft focus on the subject. This information can be displayed when you playback the images taken in this mode on the camera LCD, and when reviewed or printed via the included LUMIX Simple Viewer. Now FX8 offers a total of twelve* scene modes, still it is easy to select the one out of them thanks to the newly installed Scene Mode Help Screen, that shows the description and the knack for shooting of each scene. This functions shows the description of each mode on the LCD monitor, helps you to select the mode that best fits the shooting condition.

On the other hand, it also offers easy shooting even to the entry-level users by providing the Simple Mode, in which most settings are made automatically. You just aim at the subject, zoom in or out, and press the shutter button. Light is automatically compensated with a single press of the Exposure Compensation button when the subject is backlit.
*Not including Macro Mode directly selectable with the Mode Dial.

7. High consecutive shooting performance and responsiveness

Last but not least, the DMC-FX8 boasts high consecutive shooting performance as well as the previous FX7 did, realizing the shooting at 3 frames per second at full resolution. You can start it the moment you want thanks to the independent button**, allowing you to record consecutive images and select the best one afterward. And the Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function* allows limit-free consecutive shooting up to the capacity of the SD memory card. The industry-leading release time lag of approx. 0.008 sec minimum does not let you miss the shooting chance and help you to capture the spur-of-the-moment.

*The speed of the unlimited consecutive shooting varies depending on the SD memory card.
**The button also works for “delete” in playback mode.

8. Other Features

In addition to the ArcSoft PhotoImpression/PanoramaMaker/PhotoBase, another application software LUMIX Simple Viewer for Windows® is included. This software is good especially for the beginners to store, playback, print or attach to E-mail the images via PC readily. Images will be automatically transferred just by inserting the SD Memory Card or by connecting the camera to PC, and they will also be sorted by the date of shooting to streamline bothersome process as simple as possible.

Auto angle detection records whether an image was taken horizontally or vertically. This ensures that when playing back on the LCD monitor and displaying images on your TV by connecting your LUMIX with an AV cable, vertical images are automatically displayed vertically and horizontal images are automatically displayed horizontally.

The large LCD monitor will be turned off automatically while the camera is not in use to save the battery and extend the operation time. This is called Economy Mode and adjustable to two levels according to your convenience.

Bose Acoustic Wave Music System II (Renton WA) $700

Hello,
I am offering a Bose Acoustic Wave Music System II in the platinum white color for $700. They retail for $1100 on Bose.com today, however, it is a couple of years old. It comes with the travel case, but no remote (there is no need for the remote however you can still pick one up at any Bose store for probably $20). It looks great- sounds spectactular. FYI- The cd player doesn't play burned cds- it probably could use a new laser (another 20 dollar purchase). Still- there is plenty of savings to be had over buying a brand new one with this unit!

Acoustic Wave® music system II
•Ideal for larger rooms and outdoors
•CD player, FM/AM tuner, headphone jack
•Powerful performance with lifelike clarity from very soft to very loud volumes
•Easily portable with optional travel case and power pack
Our best all-in-one music system performs like a large component stereo costing much more—with far less complication and clutter. Advanced Bose® speaker system and audio technologies deliver sound with clarity and consistency, even at loud volume levels, in larger rooms and outdoor spaces.

The original Acoustic Wave® music system proved that a primary home stereo system needn't be complex or cumbersome. Acclaimed Bose waveguide speaker technology remains at the heart of this system's performance, providing powerful sound from small speakers.
Now, advanced Bose digital electronics fine-tune Wave® system sound for accurate music reproduction across a wide volume range. Vocals sound lifelike. Instruments ring true. More nuances emerge. Like music in a natural, live-performance setting.
Added versatility
The Acoustic Wave® music system II plays regular and home-burned audio or MP3 CDs as well as FM/AM radio. There's a headphone jack for private listening, auxiliary inputs for your TV, MP3 or other portable player and an easy-to-read display.
A convenient infrared remote lets you control your Wave® sound system from across the room. And an optional travel case and power pack make portability easy.
Let the Acoustic Wave® music system II challenge your perceptions of a quality stereo system, with sound that comes close to the essence of a live performance.

Here is the link to the bose website where you can see the ridiculous price they charge for this item. This is a much better deal.

Feel free to email me with questions. Serious inquiries only. Cash only. You pick up.

Thanks and hopefully you can be listening to your own bose system soon! Act fast as this probably won't last long!

We are leaving the country and need to sell all our stuff. I have 2 TV's that
as much as I love, need to sell. PLEASE NOTE! We are flying out in early January
and would like to keep the TV's for use untill that time. If you want to put
down a depoit to hold them, that's cool. If you have to have it NOW, then this
might not be the deals for you. I will happily show the Set's to you with a
PS3 hooked up. Bring a Blue Ray Disc if you want to see one on the sets.

mounting still allows us to angle the set towards our bed for perfect viewing
that isn't flush mounted to the wall. The bracket alone cost $300 (those things
are rip off's in my opinion, and it's what the good one's cost)
